Q: What Is Yoga?

A: The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means to yoke or to join. The art and science of Yoga is a timeless and practical discipline that harmonize the body, mind and soul. The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible, increasing optimal functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga also offers us a profound path to wellbeing and virtues of joy.


Q: What Does Om Mean? What does Asana mean?

A: Om is a mantra that is traditionally chanted at the beginning and end of yoga sessions. It is said to be the sound of the universe and has no religious meaning. Asana refers to the physical postures but the true essence of the word asana means “seat or connection” to life.


Q: How do I begin practicing yoga at The Vastu? 

A:  Please sign-up online or arrive at the studio 15-20 minutes prior to your first class, and the desk staff can help set you up.


Q: What do I need to bring to my first class? 

A: The Vastu Yoga has mats and props. However, most students prefer to bring their own mat to class. Wear comfortable workout clothing and bring a towel…expect to sweat (it's good for you).


Q: Where can I park?

A: The Vastu Yoga has ample free parking spaces around the studio. 


Q: Where do I keep my shoes and belongings?

A: We have a designated area with lockers for your convenience.


Q: I am not flexible. Can I still take Yoga? 

A: Inflexibility should not prevent you from starting yoga. A regular yoga practice will help you build both strength and flexibility. The Vastu teachers are highly certified and well trained to offer modifications to help you develop your practice no matter what physical limitations challenge you. 


Q: What classes should I take? 

A: Read the class descriptions and discern which class is appropriate for your practice and abilities.
Our staff can help you choose the best class for you.


Q: Does Vastu Yoga offer hot yoga?

A: Although The Vastu Yoga founder has a close relationship with hot yoga, our studio keeps external heat at a comfortable temperature. One’s internal fire, called “tapas,” stoked in a nurturing setting via an intelligent warm Vinyasa flow, produces enough purifying heat to burn away the obstacles that hinder one’s union with the universe. 


Q: When does my class card or package expire?

A: The expiration of your class card or package depends on the number of classes you purchase and when you purchase them. Classes that aren’t used before the expiration date are forfeited. This policy is in place to support your motivation and commitment to your yoga practice. Please purchase class card or pack that best serves your practice commitment. All classes are non-refundable and non-transferable.


Q: Do you Offer children's yoga?

A:  The Vastu Yoga studio loves children! We offer age appropriate kids and teen classes as well as summer camps.

Q: Can I practice Yoga when I’m pregnant? 

A:  The Vastu Yoga loves moms to be! You can attend any of our yoga classes that feels comfortable to you. Our teachers are knowledgeable and trained to help you modify poses. It is very important to let your teacher know prior to the start of class so they can be aware of your potential needs. You can also take one of the Prenatal Workshops for pregnancy and birth that The Vastu offers. It’s a great way to nurture yourself and your baby from the start!
